El vals criollo limeño es uno de los géneros más tradicionales en el Perú. La guitarra es el
instrumento por excelencia con el cual se le ejecuta y entre sus mayores representantes se alza la
figura de Carlos Hayre. Hayre fue un músico con formación mixta forjada por la cultura popular,
los estudios de música académica y una instrucción autodidacta que determinaron una
personalidad renovadora y experimental que planteó cambios estructurales en el género. Estos
cambios afectaron los fundamentos del estilo de ejecución del género tanto desde el punto de
vista de los cultores de la tradición de La Vieja Guardia y de La Generación Pinglo, como desde
la de sus coetáneos, quienes también desarrollaron una estética distinta a la tradicional que a la
postre sería más difundida y reconocida. Carlos Hayre fue un determinante de cambio en la
historia del género gracias a sus propuestas en cuanto a la ejecución de la guitarra con criterios
dinámicos y técnicos provenientes de su formación en guitarra clásica. También se dieron
cambios determinados por sus criterios de composición orquestal aplicados a la guitarra en
cuanto a la forma, con nuevos criterios de libertad estructural, a la armonía, determinados por los
fundamentos de la tonalidad extendida, y a la melodía, fundamentados en las mayores
posibilidades de movimiento y variedad que le brindaban sus nuevos pilares armónicos. Carlos
Hayre es un artista transcendental en la historia del vals criollo limeño, y esta consideración está
solventada en el respeto y admiración de una comunidad integrada por actores culturales de
distintas disciplinas que lo recuerdan no solo por su gran calidad humana, sino por el valor y la
trascendencia de su música. / The Lima Creole waltz (Popular gender linked to the Viennesse waltz and the Creole of
Lima) is one of the most traditional genres in Perú. The guitar is the instrument par excellence
with which it is played and among its greatest representatives stands the figure of Carlos Hayre.
Hayre was a musician with a mixed training forged by popular culture, academic musical
instruction and a self-taught training that determined a renewing and experimental personality
that posed structural changes in the genre. These changes affected the foundations of the genre's
performance style both from the point of view of the cultists of the tradition of The Old Guard
(The generation of the beginning of the genre) and The Pinglo Generation, as well as from that of
their contemporaries who also developed an aesthetic different from the traditional one and that
in the end would be more widespread and recognized. Carlos Hayre was a determinant of change
in the history of the genre thanks to his proposals regarding the performance of the guitar with
dynamic and technical criteria coming from his training in classical guitar. There were also
certain changes due to his orchestral composition criteria applied to the guitar in terms of form,
with new criteria of structural freedom, to harmony, determined by the fundamentals of the
extended tonality, and to melody, based on the new possibilities of movement and variety that
gave him his new harmonic fundamentals. Carlos Hayre is an artist who is transcendental in the
history of the Lima Creole waltz, and this consideration is based on the respect and admiration of
a community made up of cultural actors from different disciplines who remember him not only
for his great human quality but also for the value and significance of his music.
