The venom from the Australian brown snakes (Pseudonaja spp.) contains a strong procoagulant component that produces bleeding due to consumption of clotting factors in bite victims. Investigation of the role of phospholipid and calcium found neither was essential for activity, but calcium could shorten the clotting time.
