Interessa-nos, aqui, estudar a assimetria de comportamento desses verbos em contexto de construção passiva, partindo do fato empírico de que verbos das subclasses de temer/acalmar licenciam somente a passiva verbal, verbos da subclasse de preocupar licenciam somente a passiva adjetiva e verbos da subclasse de
animar licenciam ambas as formas de passiva. Procuramos, nesta dissertação,
identificar e explicitar as propriedades sintáticas e semânticas das construções passivas com verbos psicológicos, no intuito de explicar a assimetria que constitui nosso objeto de estudo. Partimos da noção de composicionalidade, o que significa dizer que pressupomos que os auxiliares ser e ficar, as preposições por e com, além da formação
verbo mais particípio, determinam, por meio de seus traços abstratos, diferenças estruturais entre passivas verbais e adjetivas. Defendemos, a partir de Boeckx (1998), Collins (2005) e Alexiadou (2005), que a construção passiva verbal possui propriedades distintas da passiva adjetiva e que as diferenças estão relacionadas à projeção do núcleo
funcional Voice na passiva verbal, o qual é o locus da natureza causativa do processo
verbal, o que produz a leitura eventiva dessa construção. A ausência desse núcleo na passiva adjetiva é a razão da interpretação estativa dessa construção. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation focuses on verbal and adjectival passive constructions formed with psychological verbs. We are interested in the asymmetric behavior of these verbs in the context of passive construction, based on the empirical fact that verbs of the subclasses of temer (‘fear’) and acalmar (‘calm’) license only verbal passives, while verbs of the
subclass of preocupar (‘worry’) license only adjectival passives and verbs of the subclass of animar (‘amuse’) license both forms of passive. We aim to identify and describe syntactic and semantic properties of passive constructions with psychological verbs in order to explain the asymmetry described above. We deal with the notion of compositionality, which means that we assume that the auxiliaries ser (‘be’) and ficar
(‘get’), the prepositions por (‘by’) and com (‘with’), and the verb plus participle formation determine, through their abstract features, structural differences between verbal and adjectival passives. We argue, based on the works of Boeckx (1998), Collins (2005) and Alexiadou (2005), that the verbal passive construction has distinct properties in relation to adjectival passive and that the differences are related to the projection of the functional head Voice in the verbal passive, which is the locus of the causative nature of the verbal process, which produces the eventive reading of this construction. The absence of this head in the adjectival passive is the reason of the stative
interpretation of this construction.
