Anne Bradstreet's works have survived the tides of critical opinion, high in her own century and low in the nineteenth, and have found a steady flow of approval in more recent years. Although she was not a great poet, she was a significant minor poet, and she deserves to be remembered for the aesthetic merit of her work, not for being the quaint Early American antique she is often considered to be. Perry Miller says that "every collection of American poetry must s alute the lyrics of Anne Bradstreet."
