Previous issue date: 1998 / Resumo: O estudo das medidas lineares e angulares dos arcos dentários apresenta grande importância pericial, permitindo a diferenciação de indivíduos quanto ao sexo. No presente trabalho, efetuou-se uma análise objetiva, no sentido de avaliar as dimensões comprimento e largura dos arcos dentais, busca do possível dimorfismo sexual. Deste modo, foram realizadas 100 tomadas radiográficas, do tipo oclusal, em 50 indivíduos, dos quais 25 eram do sexo masculino e 25 do feminino, na faixa etária entre 20 a 24 anos, todos apresentando arcos dentários superiores e inferiores completos. As imagens radiográficas foram transferidas para um computador, com auxílio de um Scanner, quando posteriormente os traçados e as medições foram realizadas, utilizando-se o Software "Corel Draw", versão 6.0. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância. As medidas lineares relativas aos pré-molares e molares, do arco superior, apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significantes, enquanto que no arco inferior, apenas as medidas dos molares apresentaram diferenças significantes. As medidas angulares do arco superior não apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significantes, entre os sexos, enquanto que, no arco inferior, apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os sexos, excetuando-se os ângulos relativos aos pré-molares e molares direitos. Pudemos concluir que a técnica empregada permite a realização do registro de medidas angulares e lineares dos arcos dentários superiores e inferiores de maneira segura, para aplicação em perícia de natureza Odontologia Legal. As medidas lineares têm maior importância no processo de identificação / Abstract: The study of linear and angular measures of is dental archs show a great skiellful importance and this allow us to differenciate in each human being. In this research we accomplished a more objective analysis to consider the extension of the archs in relation to Sex. This way, a hundred X - ray photographs occluded pattern were done, in fifty human beings: twenty five males and twenty five females, all of them showing complete superior and inferior dental archs. The X - ray photographs were transferred to the computer, with support of the scanner and posteriorly the drawings and measurements, using the program "Corell Oraw" version 6.0. The results were submitted to an alteration analysis. The linear measures referring to the premolars and molars of superior arch showed significant statistic differences, while in the inferior arch only the measures of the molar teeth showed differences. The angular measures of the superior arch didn't show significant difference between the sexes, while in the inferior arch showed important differences between the sexes, with the exception of the angles relating to right premolar and right molar. We concluded that this technic allow the realization of the register of the angular and linear measure of the superior and inferior dental archs in a safe way to apply in skill of Odontology / Mestrado / Odontologia Legal e Deontologia / Mestre em Ciências
