Previous issue date: 1995 / Resumo: O presente trabalho tem por fInalidade estudar a ocorrência, o tipo e a estabilidade das atitudes com relação à Matemática, presentes nos professores ( de }3 à 43 séries) e nos alunos do Curso Magistério, bem como investigar o motivo pelo qual as pessoas optam pelo Magistério. Foram sujeitos desse trabalho, 295 alunos do Curso Magistério de escolas da Rede Estadual de Campinas e 203 professores de 10 grau de escolas das Redes Municipal e Estadual de Campinas. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: uma Escala de atitudes com relação à Matemática, de tipo Likert, elaborada por Dutton (1968) e composta de 22 afirmações que cobrem principalmente as razões pelas quais as pessoas demonstram gostar ou não da Matemática, e um questionário usado com a fInalidade de obter dados sobre o sujeito e indícios de tendências com relação à Matemática e o fato de uma atitude representar a predisposição de uma pessoa para responder a um determinado objeto de maneira favorável ou desfavorável, optou-se por este tipo de investigação que é baseada nos seguintes pressupostos: a) As atitudes dos professores e dos futuros professores com relação à Matemática tendem a ser negativas; b) As pessoas optam pelo Magistério por não gostarem da Matemática; c) Os grupos e subgrupos se diferenciam pouco com relação às atitudes com relação à Matemática. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que, os alunos possuem atitudes negativas e os professores possuem atitudes positivas; há pouca alteração das atitudes nos professores com mais experiência e a opção pelo Magistério revelou ser uma predisposição das pessoas em lidar com as crianças / Abstract: The present work aims to study the occurrence, the type and the stability of the attitudes from the teachers (of the first 4 grades of Grade School) and from the students in the course of "Grade School Teaching"* towards Mathematics. 295 students from the course of "Grade School Teaching" from public schools in Campinas and 203 "Grade School"** teachers from public schools in the same city have been subject to this study. The instruments used were a Scale of attitudes towards Mathematics, of the Likert type, elaborated by Dutton (1968) and composed of 22 statements which mainly covered the reasons why people show to like or dislike Mathematics, and a questionnaire used to obtain some data about the subject as well as traces of tendencies towards Mathematics. Considering the importance of the study of the attitudes towards Mathematics all the fact that an attitude represents a person' s predisposition to a certain object in a favorable or an unfavorable way, we have opted for this kind of investigation, which is based on the following : a) Teachers¿ and prospective teachers' attitudes towards Mathematics tend to be negative; b) People choose the course of "Grade School Teaching" because they dislike Mathematics; c) The groups and subgroups have little difference regarding their attitudes towards Mathematics. The results obtained show that students have negative attitudes towards Mathematics and teachers positive; there is little alteration in the attitudes of more experienced teachers and the option for the course of "Grade School Teaching" has shown to be a person's predisposition to deal with children / Mestrado / Psicologia Educacional / Mestre em Educação
