Uppmärksamheten kring vårdrelaterade infektioner har lyfts fram i media som ett växande problem på sjukhus i Sverige. En av de stora anledningarna till spridning av smitta är personalens brist på korrekt utförande av basala hygienrutiner. Syftet med studien var att undersöka följsamheten gentemot Handbok för hälso- och sjukvårds riktlinjer gällande handhygien, användande av handskar och skyddskläder. Data samlades in genom strukturerade observationer på en avdelning på ett sjukhus i södra Sverige och analyserades därefter både kvalitativt och kvantitativt med hjälp av en modifierad version av Burnards (1991) innehållsanalys. Resultatet visade att följsamheten var mindre god inom samtliga kategorier. Det som noterades var att det fanns en medvetenhet om att de basala hygienrutinerna skulle utföras. Dock tydde analysen av resultatet på att det saknades vetskap om när och hur det skulle utföras. Detta skulle kunna vara en indikation på att det krävs fortsatt utbildning för all vårdpersonal om hur, när och varför de basala hygienrutinerna ska utföras. / The attention in media has been drawn to nosocomial infections as a growing problem at hospitals in Sweden. One of the main reasons for spreading infections is the lack of compliance towards the basal hygiene routines by care workers. The aim of the study was to examine the compliance towards the guidelines regarding hand hygiene, the using of gloves and protective clothing described in Handbok för hälso- och sjukvård. Data was collected through structured observations on a health care ward at a hospital in southern Sweden, and was later analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively with a modified version of Burnard’s (1991) content analysis. The result showed lack of compliance within all examined categories. It was noted that there was awareness that the basal hygiene should be performed, but the analysis showed there was lack of knowledge about when and how it should be performed in practice. This could be an indication that more education is needed for care workers about how, when and why the basal hygiene routines should be performed.
