The purpose of this study is to find optimal skidding technologies for different terrain, soil and typological conditions with a respect to soil erosion. The work is based on the soil erodibility evaluation. The layer of soil which would be potencionally left bare after the stripping by the forestry technique is investigated. We considered possibilities of extending the use of forest typological units as a tool for forest soil erosion assesment. The indisputable advantage of this system is that there are the entire map data for the whole area of the Czech Republic. It enables us to use of geographic information system (GIS). The territory of the Training Forest Enterprise "Masaryk Forest" at Křtiny serves us as a framework for the research and a source of soil samples. These soil samples were laboratory analysed and resulting values were statistically tested and used for modelling in the GIS. The Modified terrain classification was used to define the optimal skidding technology.
