Previous issue date: 2009-06-15 / This study aimed to investigate the different approaches on the training of medical-librarians, in order to observe their characteristics and proposals, and identify the informational literacy that would be desirable to these professionals in Brazil. Whereas the practice of the Medical Librarianship is recent in Brazil, the method used to achieve the proposed objectives has been developed through literature review of texts extracted in national and international databases, and took advantages of the qualitative character due to the fact of being bibliographical research of self exploratory nature which made it possible to observe the main skills and informational competences of the medical-librarians. It has also been observed that the research conducted between informational skills of Medical Library Association and the subjects proposed for the training of professionals to work in the Brazilian Medical Libraries presents a similarity between items compared. Moreover, the Brazilian medical library in is moving towards a scenario of recognition by health professionals, due to the collaboration of medical-librarians, in the provision of information that may support the doctors facing a decision, and the students and teachers of the medical field about their informational needs. The main obtained results indicate that the schools of librarianship in Brazil went through several revisions in its curriculum grids, to enable librarians to take initiatives, motivation, pro-activity and be receptive to changes, in order to act in several areas of knowledge, including in the medical field. The results also showed that the main characteristics of Brazilian medical-librarians do not differ from the general profile of librarians, to have skills to work in specialized libraries. However, it has been noted that there is little provision of courses for medical-librarians improvement and/or specialization in the medical field. / Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar as diferentes abordagens acerca da forma??o dos bibliotec?rios-m?dicos, a fim de observar suas caracter?sticas e propostas, e identificar as compet?ncias informacionais que seriam desej?veis a este profissional no Brasil. Considerando que a pr?tica da Biblioteconomia M?dica ? recente no Brasil, o m?todo utilizado para alcan?ar os objetivos propostos foi desenvolvido por meio de revis?o de literatura de textos extra?dos em bases de dados nacionais e internacionais, e valeu-se do car?ter qualitativo por ser pesquisa bibliogr?fica de natureza explorat?ria que proporcionou observamos os conceitos, forma??o e as principais compet?ncias informacionais presentes nos bibliotec?riosm?dicos. Observou-se, que a investiga??o realizada entre compet?ncias informacionais da Medical Library Association e as disciplinas propostas a para forma??o dos profissionais para atuarem nas bibliotecas m?dicas brasileiras apresenta uma similitude entre elementos comparados. Por outro lado, a biblioteconomia m?dica no Brasil aparece caminhando em dire??o a um cen?rio de reconhecimento por parte dos profissionais da sa?de, devido ? colabora??o dos bibliotec?rios-m?dicos no fornecimento de informa??es que possam subsidiar os m?dicos diante de uma tomada de decis?o, bem como os discentes e docentes da ?rea m?dica a respeito de suas necessidades informacionais. Os principais resultados obtidos indicam que: as escolas de Biblioteconomia no Brasil passaram por diversas reformula??es em suas grades curriculares, visando capacitar os bibliotec?rios a terem iniciativas, motiva??es, pr?-atividade e ser receptivo ?s mudan?as, para atuar em v?rias ?reas do conhecimento, inclusive na ?rea m?dica. Os resultados tamb?m evidenciaram que as principais caracter?sticas inerentes aos bibliotec?rios-m?dicos brasileiros, n?o diferem do perfil dos bibliotec?rios generalistas, no sentido de terem compet?ncias para atuarem em bibliotecas especializadas. Entretanto, notou-se, que existe pouca oferta de cursos para bibliotec?rios-m?dicos se aperfei?oarem e/ou especializarem na ?rea m?dica.
