Pretende-se estudar o papel da biblioteca universitária pública em relação aos alunos do bacharelado em direito da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) e da Universidade do Estado da Bahia (UNEB) mostrando o que ela apresenta: a coleção de referência e os serviços próprios para garantir a difusão da informação, sendo importante a mediação de qualidade por parte do bibliotecário, bem como os serviços disponibilizados pela biblioteca, favorecendo assim a manutenção da sua essência. Esta pesquisa se desenvolveu durante o Mestrado do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Informação da Universidade Federal da Bahia, a partir do ano de 2011 a início de 2013, para analisar a interação entre o usuário e sua biblioteca, que desenvolve coleções do campo jurídico, bem como a mediação exercida pelo bibliotecário com seu usuário-aluno. Metodologicamente a pesquisa caracteriza-se como descritiva com abordagem qualitativa, na qual utilizou-se como instrumento de coleta de dados, um questionário aplicado presencialmente com questões objetivas e subjetivas. Os resultados demonstraram que a mediação humana exercida pelo profissional da informação face o usuário de uma biblioteca de um curso de direito, contribui para a melhoria na utilização do acervo e demais serviços ofertados, entretanto, nas bibliotecas analisadas, os resultados apontaram uma baixa interação entre o profissional da informação e seu usuário-aluno. Este trabalho é relevante para estudos que visam avaliações contínuas na área da Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação. / ABSTRACT-The university library is an essential organization because it contributes to the university to form and critical citizens aware of their role professionally and socially. We intend to study the role of the public university library in relation to the students of Bachelor in Law from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the University of the State of Bahia (UNEB) showing what she has: a reference collection and the services themselves to ensure the dissemination of information, it is important to quality mediation by the librarian, as well as the services provided by the library, thereby maintaining its essence. This research developed during the Master's Program Graduate in Information Science from the Federal University of Bahia, from the year 2011 to early 2013, to analyze the interaction between the user and his library, which develops collections from the field legal and mediation exercised by the librarian with your user-student. Methodological research is characterized as descriptive qualitative approach, which was used as an instrument of data collection, a questionnaire administered in person with objective and subjective questions. The results demonstrated that human mediation exercised by information professionals face the user of a library of a law course, contributes to the improvement in the use of the collection and other services offered, however, in the libraries analyzed, the results showed a low interaction between the information profession and its user-student. This work is relevant for studies aimed at continuous assessments in the field of Library and Information Science.
