Ainda muito pouco estudado no campo das relações internacionais, o período é importante por se tratar do primeiro governo militar após o golpe de 1964. São poucas as pesquisas que abordam de forma imparcial e sem preconceitos esse período. Foi analisada a política interna do país para compreender de que modo ela repercutiu na esfera externa. Nesse sentido, adotou-se o modelo teórico de Robert Putnam, que estuda a conexão entre política doméstica e política externa. Foi realizada uma pesquisa em periódicos da época, assim como na documentação encontrada no acervo histórico do Itamaraty em Brasília. ______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The objective of this thesis is to understand the foreign policy adopted by the Castello Branco's Administration during the years 1964-1967. This period is scarcely studied in the field of international relations and it is important because it is the first government after the military coup. There are only a few researches that characterizes this government in a neutral and impartially way. The domestic politics were analyzed in order to see how it affected the foreign policy. Therefore, was adopted the theoretical model created by Robert Putnam, that analyzes how domestic politics affects the foreign policy. A research was made in the periodicals of that period, as well as the documentation found in the Itamaraty Palace (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) historical collection in Brasí­lia.
