The aim of my master diploma work is the analysis of travel diary by Bedřich zu Schwanzenberg nicknamed "The Last Lancknecht" who fought in the First Carlist War in Spain. This master diploma work represents a contribution to the history of mentality in the thirties of the 19th century. The first part of my study is dedicated to the description of Bedřich zu Schwanzenberg´s adventurous life as well as to the political, economic situation in Spain and history of the Carlist Wars on the Iberian Peninsula. The notable part of the first part of my master diploma work is Bedřich zu Schwanzenberg´s individual reflexion of the First Carlist War. The following chapters deal with the European in particular German and Austrian oficcers´ such as Felix Lichnowsky, Wilhelm von Rahden, Adolf Loning and August Karl von Goeben participation in the First Carlist War and confrontation of their interesting witnesses of Spain with the travel diary by Schwanzenberg .
