The reconstruction and FEA analysis of the decommissioned WWII era destroyer USS Cassin Young in the SolidWorks environment / Reconstruction and finite element analysis of the decommissioned WWII era destroyer USS Cassin Young in the SolidWorks environment

Thesis (S.B.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, 2013. / Cataloged from PDF version of thesis. / Includes bibliographical references (page 29). / An attempt was made at reconstructing the now decommissioned World War II era destroyer USS Cassin Young using blueprints on file at the Hart Nautical Museum . After the electronic model was constructed, an attempt was made to run an FEA analysis to determine stress levels in the ship's hull. The ship was made using the various Solidworks tools available including surfacing and extrusion tools while using the available blueprints for recreation accuracy. The FEA was not completed due to problems encountered in the meshing and analysis of the complex geometry of the ship hull. / by Malik Miller. / S.B.
