Abstract The purpose of the study was to identify opportunities and challenges with the HR’s use of digital communication. Based on the study’s sub-purpose, we wanted to shed light on potential prospects and present solutions to identified opportunities and challenges. The study’s question was designed to: What opportunities and challenges are there with the HR function’s use of digital communication? To answer the study’s purpose and question, a qualitative study with a inductive research approach was conducted. The conclusion we reached was that it requires the ability and knowledge for the HR to deal with the challenges that comes with the digital development of society and to gain access to the opportunities offered by digital communication. It is only when the challenges are handled correctly and actively worked with, that the HR’s use of digital communication can be successful. By working on the basis of the solutions the study resulted in creates good conditions for the HR to take advantage of the possibilities of digital communication.
