This study is about contrastive analysis in mother tongue teaching in Sweden. Contrastive analysis between mother tongue and Swedish is part of the Swedish syllabus for the school subject mother tongue and is therefore a pertinent subject to be investigated. The study analyzes how five mother tongue teachers in a medium-sized Swedish city work with contrastive analysis in their classes and how they evaluate the importance of this content in mother tongue teaching. The question concerning the teacher's working method with contrastive analysis focuses on whether they have used teaching aids that present this content and that are in accordance with the Swedish syllabus. The study also investigates whether teachers experience that they have access to such materials. Furthermore, the study analyzes the recommendations of teaching aids for mother tongue teaching made by the Swedish National Agency for Education in their website. The main goal is to gain a better understanding about the teacher's perspectives on and practices of contrastive analysis in mother tongue teaching. Hopefully, the study can be a contribution to the work of mother tongue teachers and teaching aid authors as well as to the studies of mother tongue students in a Swedish context. /
Modersmål
