Previous issue date: 2009-08-07 / This dissertation departs from the analysis of the project of Centro Empresarial Itaú (CEI), of which I am co-author, searching to configure a case of research in design. This project represents a particular case of the development of
the city, being an example of direct action of Emurb (meaning the State) in its urbanization, where we can perceive its qualities and limitations. The structure of the dissertation has, as the starting point, the experience of the author. It analyzes the project of the CEI, not in a systematic and descriptive form, but searching to unveil the designing process. It follows its development in time, identifying the relevant points and trying to clarify the criteria and the contexts of the design s decision making. The objective of this procedure
is to allow that the main solutions are understood inside
of the horizon and in the direction that they had when they had been made. The project also is analyzed by the optics of its functional typology, understanding its historical evolution and comparing it with other projects in similar contexts, either regarding the program, or the site: the city of São Paulo. Finally I analyze what I consider its more important aspect, its relation with the city, not only trough the relation of the building with its immediate surroundings, but as an element of the process of construction of the city. This process is here considered as a result of the action of the State, when it regulates its occupation or executes buildings, public spaces and infrastructure. But also mainly as an effect of the sprayed action of thousand of individuals or groups that plan and build. / Esta dissertação parte da análise do projeto do Centro Empresarial Itaú (CEI), de que sou co-autor, buscando configurar um caso de pesquisa em projeto. Este projeto representa um caso particular da produção da cidade, sendo um raro exemplo de ação direta da Emurb, ou seja do Estado, na urbanização da cidade, onde podemos perceber suas qualidades e limitações. A estrutura da dissertação tem o ponto de partida a experiência do autor, contrariando a forma convencional de passar do geral para o particular. Analisa o projeto do CEI, não de forma sistemática e descritiva, mas buscando retomar o processo de projeto. Segue seu desenvolvimento no tempo, identificando os pontos mais relevantes e tentando esclarecer os critérios e os contextos das decisões de projeto. O objetivo desse procedimento é permitir que as soluções principais sejam vistas e entendidas dentro do horizonte e do sentido que elas tinham quando foram tomadas. O projeto é também analisado pela ótica de sua tipologia funcional, entendendo de forma breve sua evolução histórica e comparando-o com outros projetos realizados dentro de contextos similares, tanto em relação ao programa, como em relação ao local: a cidade de São Paulo.
Por último analiso o que considero seu aspecto mais relevante, sua relação com a cidade, já não mais na escala da relação do edifício com seu entorno imediato, mas sim como um elemento do processo de construção da cidade, que surge a partir de ações do Estado quando este regulamenta sua ocupação ou executa diretamente edifícios, espaços públicos e obras de infra-estrutura, mas principalmente da ação pulverizada de milhares de pessoas ou grupos que planejam e constróem edifícios.
