/
In this Thesis the research is focused on modeling and realization of virtual network laboratory based on virtualization technology. This work is motivated with the growing development of ICT technologies and TCP/IP networks which resulted with the growing importance of educated and well trained experts in this field. In the beginning phase of the research, the model of virtual network laboratory with local access is developed. Together with the model and its realization the virtual network scenarios used for learning were modeled as well. The next phase of research is focused on modeling virtual network laboratory with remote access. The architecture of the laboratory model is presented, as well as the hardware and software components of the laboratory and network scenarios. The model is evaluated after the period of usage. The first evaluation of VNLab is conducted using newly developed methodology based on rough set theory. This methodology is one of the scientific results of this work and allows lecturer to analyze student work and to find out the differences between various levels of student knowledge. Also, it allows lecturer to identify
parts in exercise material which is not understandable by students. Furthermore, the
virtual network laboratory model is evaluated with two control tests. The third method of evaluation of the model is done with usage of formative assessment. At the end, usability of VNLab environment in various Computer Science based curriculums is shown by comparing VNLab supported features with recommended curriculums of ACM, IEEE and AIS organizations for 4 areas of computer science: Computer
Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Information Systems
