A proposição básica deste trabalho foi estudar o "produto final" do CPGA/UFRGS, consubstanciado na atuação profissional de seus ex-alunos,havendo sido caracterizados como tais aqueles que tendo completado ou estando completando o número regulamentar de créditos necessários ao mestrado até o primeiro semestre de 1977, estivessem ativos profissionalmente nessa época. A análise se desenvolveu a partir de uma concepção da organização CPGA como "sistema aberto",ou seja, interdependente em relação ao seu meio,procurando-se identificar nesse meio clientelas cujas demandas se revestem de caráter de prioridade, no momento atual, como pontos de referéncia.Aventou-se, então, a possibilidade da existencia de discrepância entre os resultados atingidos pelo CPGA e os objetivos (1) da politica nacional de pós-graduação; (2) estabelecidos pelo préprio curso e (3) expressos pelos alunos. A metodologia utilizada constou de entrevistas estruturadas com uma amostra de cerca de 63,4% da população eleita e levantamento de dados diretamente das fichas de inscrição ao curso dessa mesma amostra. O recurso estatístico utilizado foi a técnica do qui-quadrado.Na etapa de processamento de dados foi utilizado o sistema SPSS - Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Concluiu-se que: 1 - Existiu uma discrepância notória entre o determinado pela política nacional de pós-graduação e o "produto" do CPGA, no período estudado. 2 - Há indícios de que o objetivo "acrescentado" pelo CPGA -formação de executivos de alto nível - tenha tido precedén cia sobre os formais - formação de professores e pesquisadores-a pesar de não se identificar com a categoria mais representativa, em termos percentuais, do "produto" do curso. 3 - A maioria dos entrevistados sente ter atingido seus objetivos iniciais de "desenvolvimento intelectual e profissional". A partir basicamente dessas. conclusões, foram tecidas considerações sobre o seu significado, propostas hipóteses explicativas e sugeridos estudos complementares ao presente. / This study basic proposition has been to study the CPGA/ UFRGS's end product, based on its ex-alumni professional activities. The ex-alumni have been caracterized as such as being those having completed or completing the required number of credits for the Master degree as of 19.77 first semester and were professionally active at that time. The analysis considered the CPGA as being an "open system", i.e., an interdependent organization in relation to its milieu and has been geared towards the identification of those clients having prioritary demands at that moment. Then, we have hypothesized about the possibility of discrepancy between the CPGA final results and the objectives: 1) of the national graduate policy; 2) estabilished by the CPGA, and 3) expressed by the alumni. The methodology consisted of structured interviews with a sample of about 63% of the choosen population and of gathering data from the application forms submited to the CPGA. The data have been processed using the methodology established in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences - SPSS, and the statistical analysis based on the "chi-square" technique. From the analysis developed for the period considered we came to the conclusion that: 1. There is a significant discrepancy between what is established by the national graduate policy and the CPGA "final product"; 2. There are some evidences that the CPGA "additional" objective - prepare high level executives - has had priority over the formal objectives - prepare professors and researchers - although this additional objective is not identified with the more representative category of the CPGA product; 3. Most of those interviewed felt as havingechieved their initial objectives of "intelectual and professional development". From these conclusions, some considerations upon their meaning have bee.n drawn, explanatory hypotheses proposed and complementary studies suggested.
