Avaliaram-se: pressão arterial, seguindo parâmetros do The Fourth Report on the Diagnosis, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents, índice de massa corporal, circunferência abdominal, género, idade, peso, altura, fatores sociodemográficos, hábitos alimentares, uso de bebida alcoólica e drogas, tabagismo, lesões e violência, atividade física, hábitos de proteção. / Arterial hypertension is one of the most important problems in public health that affexts populations worldwide and can start in childhood. OBJECTIVE: To identify the prevalence of Elevated Arterial Pressure (EAP) and associated factors in elementar/ school children in the municipality of Cajazeiras-PB. METHODS: Cross-sectional study. Sample included 692 school aged children from both genders, age ranging from 10 to 15 years old (stratified), from public and private schools located in rural and urban áreas of the municipality of CajazeirasPB. This was related to overweight, obesity, gender, age, tobacco smoking. Other studied variables were not associated with EAP. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of EAP was within the average expected for this age range. Those presenting overweight and obesity were more exposed to EAP. Routine monitoring of AP is important to early identification of EAP. Similar studies identify associated factors such as overweight, obesity, and tobacco use as important to prevent cardiovascular events in the future. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of EAP was within the average expected for this age range. Those presenting overweight and obesity were more exposed to EAP. Routine monitoring of AP is important to early identification of EAP.
