Safety, reliability and availability are important factors in the aviation industry. To fulfill this, systems of high quality are required and in order to ensure high quality in the long term, control and maintenance are important during the aftermarket. The greatest profitability in the aviation industry is in the aftermarket. This bachelor thesis has been carried out in cooperation with an Avionic company. The company is in an expansive phase where a new customer base and the launch of new systems create potential for a profitable business. The purpose of the thesis is to design a proposal for a business model for the aftermarket. Two questions were formulated that should lead to the purpose. The first question answers what creates value for customers in the civil aviation market. The second question answers which factors are important in designing a business model fitted for the aftermarket. The empirical data has been collected by examining aftermarket models in different industries and by examining trends and needs in the aviation industry. The thesis shows that structured aftermarket offers have a major impact on companies' profitability in the aviation industry. It is important to be part of the beginning of a business in order to design the aftermarket structure. Creating a support organization and get partners around the world are essential to be involved in competing for aftermarket services. One conclusion is that the offering of aftermarket services is affected by the type of system that the company intends to sell. The work resulted in three proposals for business models adapted for the aftermarket. The business models are designed according to the type of system that the company intends to sell.
