Abstract The purpose of this study was to find out how leisure educator´s reason about children’s learning and development, and their view of their own role in the process. Four leisure educators were interviewed to answer these questions. The study is based on qualitative interviews, wich means that the interviewer must interpret and understand what the respondents want to say. This is to get a deeper knowledge of the subject. The results show that the leisure educators believe they have a large and important role in children's development and learning. It is important that the correct conditions exist for them to be able to see each child's needs and interests. The conditions are that the presence of trained staff, adequate staff and a good working relationship with the school. However, all respondents believe that there is insufficient knowledge of principals and school management. They argue that we need more knowledge about their professional role in child development and learning. This is to carry out a solid work with the children.
