ACOG (American College of Obestetrician and Gynecoligists) believes that the safety and efficacy of misoprostol is sufficiently proven to be used in induction of labor. Treatment with misoprostol (Cytotec®) is usually used outside its indication area. Internationally, the use of misoprostol is preferred before other prostaglandin analogues because it has a large number of benefits. The purpose of this literature study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of misoprostol in the dose regimens 25 μg and 50 μg in pre-induction of labor. Searching for scientific articles for the literature study was implemented on the PubMed database and in search function used the terms “misoprostol” and “labor, induced”. The studies do not show sufficiently large differences that an optimal treatment dose of misoprostol in labor induction should be established. Larger clinical studies are required to determine optimal treatment dose of misoprostol where the route of administration and dose interval should also be investigated.
