In my dissertation Dance in Israeli Society I have tried to describe the position and perception of dance in contemporary Israeli society from the perspective of modern methods of anthropological research. I have used the methods of the work in the field - authentic interviews with Israeli dancers and Israeli choreographers, with the use of publications in English and Hebrew. My observation were focused on modern Israeli society but with understanding the context of the Jewish history and the transformation of the status of dance in Jewish society from the Biblical times, through the period of diaspora until the Zionist ideas that led to the creation of modern State Israel. Context is completed with a reflection on the current problems of Israeli society and a positive role of dance as a the medium in mutual understanding of different social groups in the contemporary society,.
