Previous issue date: 2011 / This research analyses the magazines Vox and Arquipélago, published respectively during the mandate of Governor Olívio Dutra (1999 to 2002), of PT, and the mandate of Governor Germano Rigotto (2003 to 2005), of PMDB, contextualizing them in the historical and political scenery in which they were published. It starts with a report of the History of press in Brazil and its influences on daily and cultural journalism, starting from the Brazilian scenario, until we reach Porto Alegre in the 2000s. It is in 2000 that Vox magazine is launched. We also analyze the possible political usage of the magazines. In addition to this, we study discourse as a means of persuasion or political propaganda, concluding, from the analysis of the magazines‟ editorials, that both magazines made transparent the ideals of each government. The method used in the research is Depth Hermeneutics (HP), by John B. Thompson, whose focus is the production analysis of meaning by means of the symbolic forms that support or establish the relations of power. As a theoretical reference, the research makes use of Roland Barthes for the semiotic analysis, which is used within Discourse Analysis (AD), one of the three subdivisions of Thompson‟s HP. / Esta pesquisa analisa as revistas Vox e Arquipélago, editadas respectivamente pelos governos de Olívio Dutra (1999 a 2002), do PT, e de Germano Rigotto (2003 a 2005), do PMDB, respectivamente, buscando contextualizá-las no cenário histórico e político de quando circularam. De início, faz um relato da história da imprensa no país e as suas vertentes para o jornalismo diário e para o jornalismo cultural, partindo do cenário nacional até chegar a Porto Alegre nos anos 2000, ano em que é publicado o primeiro título pesquisado. O estudo analisa o possível uso político das mesmas. Também estuda o discurso como meio de persuasão ou de divulgação política, concluindo, a partir da análise de seus editoriais, que ambas deixaram transparecer os ideais de cada governo. A pesquisa tem, como método de trabalho, a Hermenêutica de Profundidade (HP), de John B. Thompson, cujo enfoque é a análise da produção de sentido, por meio das formas simbólicas que sustentam ou estabelecem relações de poder. Como referencial teórico, apóia-se em Roland Barthes para a análise semiológica, usada dentro da Análise Discursiva (AD), uma das três subdivisões da HP de Thompson.
