Syftet med studien är att undersöka institutionsplacerade ungdomars situation beträffande missbruk, kriminalitet och psykisk hälsa samt belysa deras syn på institutionsvistelsen, ett år efter utskrivning. Följande frågeställningar berörs i uppsatsen: - Hur ser ungdomarnas bruk av alkohol och droger ut vid inskrivnings- respektive uppföljningstillfället? - Har ungdomarnas kriminella beteende förändrats vid uppföljningstillfället? - Har ungdomarnas psykiska hälsa förändrats sedan inskrivning? - Hur ser ungdomarna själva på institutionstiden? Frågeställningarna har besvarats genom ett färdigställt intervjumaterial (ADAD), omfattande inskrivnings- och uppföljningsintervjuer med 105 ungdomar som varit placerade vid två SiS-hem. Resultatet jämförs med den tidigare publicerade svenska ADAD- uppföljningen och diskuteras mot bakgrund av Levins (1997; 1998) och Andreassens (2003) resonemang om institutionsvård samt mot annan forskning inom området. Slutsatser som kan dras utifrån undersökningen är att situationen för de undersökta ungdomarna har förbättrats något och att majoriteten av ungdomarna har positiva upplevelser av institutionstiden. Trots detta har många fortfarande beteendeproblem och emotionella svårigheter. Ingen av ungdomarna har slutat missbruka, 84 procent är fortfarande brottsaktiva och många mår psykiskt dåligt. Dessa resultat överensstämmer till stor del med resultatet i den föregående ADAD-uppföljningen, samt med tidigare forskning. / The purpose of the study is to examine the social situation of youths that have been in institutional care, regarding drug abuse, criminality and mental health. The aim is also to examine their experiences from the time at the institution. Following questions of issues are illustrated in the study: - Is there any change in usage of alcohol and drugs from the registration to the follow up occasion? - Have the youth´s criminal behaviour changed to the follow up occasion? - Is there any change in mental health to be found since the registration? - What kind of experiences are gained during the institutional care? These questions have been answered with data from registration and follow up interviews with 105 youths, previous in institutional care. The results are compaired with an earlier published ADAD follow up. We also discuss the results on the basis of Levin´s (1997; 1998) and Andreassen’s (2003) debate about institutional care, and other research findings. Conclusions that can be made from this study are that the situation of the examined youths has improved slightly and that the majority of the youth have positive experiences. Even so, many of them still have behaviour problems and emotional difficulties. None of the youths have quit using drugs, 84 per cent are still criminal and many report feelings of depression. These results agree with the earlier ADAD follow up, and with other research findings.
