The introduction of the thesis consists of a review of literature about thermal modification of wood. More precisely, the author presents history, possible ways of treatments and the impacts on the treated material from the point of view of chemical, physical and mechanical changes. The introduction of the thesis describes the main subject of the research European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). The practical part of the work focuses on a contact high-temperature treatment of the samples. It is intended to achieve in the cross-section uneven modification. The treated samples were chemically analyzed. Finally, the results are evaluated and discussed.
