The objective of this study is to verify the possible existent relations among intelectual development stages and the semiotic representation, in the teaching and learning Mathmatics processes, connected to the study of the function. The sample used was the specific study. The students from first serie of Dehon High School – Tubarão – SC were responsible by the research. A sequence of activities were instruments which they utilized. The activities were shared in six groups in a mathmatic class during the school year of 2002. The activities were organized according to the contents studied by the students during that period. The revision of literature is, mainly, based on studies connected to the stages of development through the Piaget’s and Peirce’ s theories, and the relations in the teaching and learning mathmatics processes according to the context. Previous issue date: 2003 / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo verificar as possíveis relações que existem entre os estágios de desenvolvimento mental, as representações semióticas no processo ensinoaprendizagem da matemática atreladas ao estudo das funções. A amostra utilizada foi o estudo de caso, tendo como sujeitos da pesquisa alunos da primeira série A do Ensino Médio do Colégio Dehon – Tubarão-SC. Os instrumentos utilizados para a pesquisa foram uma seqüência de atividades divididas em seis blocos aplicadas em sala de aula no contexto das aulas de matemática durante o ano letivo de 2002. As atividades foram estruturadas respeitando-se a seqüência dos conteúdos estudados pelos sujeitos durante o ano letivo em curso. A revisão da literatura baseia-se principalmente em estudos relacionados com os está- gios de desenvolvimento à luz das teorias Piagetiana e Peirciana e suas relações com o processo de ensino-aprendizagem no contexto da matemática. A partir das teorias e da análise das atividades realizadas pelos alunos, procurou-se delimitar algumas conclusões discutidas no contexto das considerações finais e conclusões relacionadas com o objeto de estudo em questão e os sujeitos envolvidos na pesquisa.
