The objective of the present work were to statistically study the different types of neoplasms that affect canines of our environment and to consider their blastodermic origin, sex, age, localization and malignancy degree, based on the histopathologic diagnoses, the most accurate exam available for their identification. During 1990-1994 the necropsy protocols were reviewed for canine neoplasms in the Histopathologic laboratory of the School of Veterinary Medicine of San Marcos University. Later, our results were compared with previous studies made in foreign countries. Most of the affected animals (44/76) were female. Animals ranging from 5 to 12 years old also showed a high frequency (17.1%). Most common were the neoplasm of epithelial origin, wherein mammary adenocarcinomas were most frequent (23.6%). Hematopoyetic neoplasms and especially the malignant lymphoma were second most important tumors (10.5%). Among the connective tissue tumors, the fibrosarcoma was most common (5.2%). These were followed by the miscellaneous neoplasms, wherein the Transmissible Venereal Tumor (3.9%) showed the highest frequency. Finally, tumors of endothelial origin had the hemangiosarcoma as the most important neoplasms (3.9%).
