Majoritetens etermedia : En studie om hur intervjupersoners etnicitet representeras och gestaltas i Malou efter tio. / The Majority's Ether Media : A study on how the etnicity of interviewees is represented and framed in the morning show Malou efter tio.

Title: The majority’s ether media Author: Lana Zand Location: Linnaeus University Language: Swedish Number of pages: 52 In this thesis, 161 interviews of the Swedish morning-show Malou efter tio have been analyzed to find out how the social construct of ethnicity is framed, but also represented.  Purpose: the purpose of this thesis is to examine the frequency and framing of ethnicity in the morning-show. This is executed by measuring the proportion of ethnic identities that are being interviewed by the show host Malou von Sivers – and under what premises these groups are being portrayed. The ethnic groups are divided into being either a part of the social majority or minority, which is determined in regards of name, accent or presentation provided by the show host. Method: the method approach is a combination of a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative thematic analysis. Main results: the analysis show that the minority population in Sweden is underrepresented and tends to appear in contexts that portray them in a vulnerable situation. It also shows that minorities tend to act as a representative of their own ethnic group, more so compared to the majority population.
