In this study, polyurethanes (PUs) from castor oil and interpenetratingpolymer networks (IPNs) based on PU and Poly(acrylates) were synthesized. Theaim of this work was to evalute PU and IPNs potential as adhesives for metal andwood substrates. Initially, PUs) from castor oil and Toluene Diisocyanate atdifferent NCO/OH molar ratio were synthesized. The adhesive power of the PUswere evaluated on metal-metal and wood-wood substrates and compared tocommercial adhesives. The obtained materials were analyzed by FTIR, DSC andTGA. The materials adhesive power, evaluated in lap shear strength tests, showedthat the PU obtained at 1,99 (NCO/OH) molar ratio was competitive whencompared to commercial adhesives. From this PU and Poly(acrylates) (PMMA,PBMA, PBA and PEA) Interpenetrating Polymer Networks (IPNs) were synthesized The IPNs were applied to meta-metal and wood-wood substrates were alsoevaluated in lap shear strength tests. It was verified that the IPN adhesivity variedaccording to the type of Poly(acrylate) used in its composition and the molar ratio(NCO/OH), some of them producing tensile strength close to those of testedcommercial adhesives. The PU with 1,99 (NCO/OH) molar ratio and the relatedIPNs with PMMA showed a high potential as adhesives.
