Objetivo: Determinar la asociación de la inserción profesional del egresado durante el periodo 1996-2005 de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos con los factores sociodemográficos, educacionales relacionados al pregrado y de capacitación de posgrado. Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal analítico, se aplicó una encuesta estructurada validada por juicio de 5 expertos y 1 estudio piloto a una muestra representativa de 158 egresados durante el periodo 1996-2005 de la Facultad de Odontología de la UNMSM. Se recopilaron datos de la inserción profesional, sociodemográficos, del pregrado y de capacitación de posgrado. Resultados: El 90.51%(143/158) de egresados se encontraban insertados profesionalmente mientras que 6.34%(5/158) realizaba actividad laboral vinculada a salud, 3.16%(5/158) realizaba actividad laboral no vinculada a salud y 3.16%(5/158) estaban desempleados. El 85.82% trabajaba en Lima, 65.96% pertenecía al sector privado independiente, 76.60% recibía remuneración según productividad, 62.94% tenían más de dos trabajos, la antigüedad laboral varió entre 0.16 y 14 años, las horas de labor semanal variaron entre 8 y 78 horas, en el sector público 76% eran contratados y en el sector privado dependiente 78.26% tenía vinculación laboral de prestación de servicios así como 98.92% recibía remuneración según productividad. Mediante el análisis multivariado se encontró que el lugar de residencia (vivir en Perú, p=0.00), haber realizado ayudantías durante el pregrado (p=0.04) y estudio de idiomas culminados durante el pregrado (p=0.02) se asociaron a la inserción profesional. Conclusiones: Los factores asociados a la inserción profesional fueron los factores sociodemográficos y los factores educacionales relacionados al pregrado. Existen manifestaciones de precarización y desregulación en la profesión odontológica.

The 85.82% worked in Lima, 65.96% belonged to the independent private sector, 76.60% was paid according to productivity, 62.94% had more than two jobs, length of service varied between 0.16 and 14 years, week work hours varied between 8 and 78 hours, 76% were contracted workers in the public sector and 78.26% had labor relationship for services provided as well as 98.92% was paid according to productivity in the independent private sector. By multivariate analysis, place of residence (p=0.00), assistantships during undergraduate (p = 0.04) and culminated language study during undergraduate (p =0.02) were associated with professional insertion. Conclusions: The factors associated with professional insertion were sociodemographic factors and factors related to undergraduate education. There are manifestations of precarization and deregulation in the dental profession.
