Upplever kvinnor det offentliga rummet olika beroende på var i landet de bor? : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om kvinnor i två geografiska regioner har skilda upplevelser om det offentliga rummet i mörker.

To study if women experience limitations in public space is to study the obvious, there is sufficient research made in that research field established a long time ago. Women experience more limitations in public places than men, and their biggest concern regard being exposed to sexual violence. With this background, the focus of this study is if the experiences of women, resident in two different geographical regions, are the same. Additionally, the aim of this study is to investigate if their conditions result in different experiences in the dark. The aim of this study is fulfilled using qualitative, semi-structured interviews. Four different women in each region were interviewed. The result of this essay is in line with previous research which claim that the women’s biggest fear regards being exposed to sexual violence. Furthermore, it also claims that the experienced insecurity is much due to darkness. The results show no significant differences between the interviewed women in the different regions regarding limitations to the women. The actual place where women experience most limitations is what differs between the regions the most. The women in the different regions have similar experiences that are in line with previous research. The women adjust themselves and learn to somewhat feel unsafe in public space. This is something that they are taught as children, and they do not always realize that they adjust their behavior.
