Undervisa samhällsfrågor med naturvetenskapligt innehåll på gymnasiet : En fallstudie om biologisk mångfald för Naturkunskap 1 och 2

This project is about finding out if SSI (socioscientific issues; in Swedish:SNI) is a good method to use to make students more interested and motivated to learn science in the courses Nk1 and Nk2 in the Swedish upper secondary school. Many reports suggest that using socioscientific issues in the classroom when teaching will indeed raise the students will to learn. As SSI is a student-active method using recent, relevant and authentic questions from our society, the students often find the teaching more relevant and thus stimulating. The method used is a survey about SSI sent to science teachers in the upper secondary school, with questions about SSI; if they know what it is, if there are any advantages and disadvantages and how they think that the students have experienced the method. I am focusing my project on the topic biodiversity and if SSI is working well to teach about biodiversity.
