El sector hidrocarburos representa uno de los sectores de mayor dinamismo e impacto en la economía peruana. Este sector adquirió mayor relevancia hacia finales del siglo XX producto de su participación en las principales actividades económicas del país. A pesar de su creciente importancia y desarrollo en los últimos 20 años, el sector de hidrocarburos peruano es altamente dependiente de los precios internacionales, está concentrado en unas pocas empresas y a pesar de ser un país rico en hidrocarburos, la demanda interna no es satisfecha debido a la falta de competitividad del sector.
En el país, esta industria se caracteriza por presentar un comportamiento oligopólico de mercado en todas las actividades que componen la cadena de valor. Además, la rentabilidad del sector es fuertemente influenciada por el movimiento de los precios internacionales del petróleo. Existen limitantes a la competitividad y el desarrollo del mercado al presentarse numerosas barreras de entrada, lo que en los últimos años, sumado a las crisis internacionales, ha significado una contracción en la inversión, ralentizando el desarrollo económico del sector.
La presente investigación tiene como finalidad identificar en que medida, la competitividad empresarial es afectada por la oscilación del precio internacional del petróleo, y en que grado este se correlaciona con los precios locales y repercute en la cadena de valor downstream de los hidrocarburos líquidos. Para el logro de esta investigación, se analizará el comportamiento de la demanda y los precios de los gasoholes, el diésel y el GLP entre los años 2004 y 2016. / The hydrocarbons sector represents one of the sectors with the highest dynamism and impact in the Peruvian economy. This sector acquired greater relevance towards the end of the 20th century as a result of its contribution to the main economic activities of the country. Despite its growing importance and development in the last 20 years, the Peruvian hydrocarbons sector is highly dependent on international prices, is concentrated in a few enterprises and although Peru is a rich country on hydrocarbons, the local demand is not satisfied due to the lack of competitiveness of the sector.
In the country, this industry is characterized for having an oligopolistic behaviour of the market in all the activities that compose the chain of value. Furthermore, the profitability of the sector is strongly influenced by the movement of international oil prices. There are limitations towards the competitiveness and the development of the market, as there are numerous entry barriers that in the last years, added to the international crisis, have meant a contraction on the investment, slowing down the sector’s economic development.
The current investigation has as main purpose to identify at what extent, the entrepreneurial competitiveness is affected by the international oil price oscillation, and at what degree it correlates with local prices and influence the downstream chain of value of the liquid hydrocarbons. In order to achieve this purpose, the behaviour of the demand and prices of the gasoline, diesel and the liquefied petroleum gas, between 2004 and 2016, will be analysed. / Tesis
