The place of counseling in the pastor's task has been the subject of much research and study during the past few decades. The consensus of those concerned with defining the pastor's task seems to be that counseling is a vital need of parishioners in all churches and that responsibility for counseling usually lies with the pastor.
In a sincere attempt to meet the needs of their people many pastors are genuinely trying to equip themselves to provide counseling services. The problem that naturally needs evaluation is: The Present Status of Pastoral Counseling.
The objectives that ultimately evolve in this investigation are: To provide for ministers and other interested persons information regarding the present status of pastoral counseling of the ministers of the California Nevada Conference of the Methodist Church. To furnish possible basis for revision and improvement of such counseling services as are now offered in various churches.
