Det har visats att nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskor har vissa svårigheter att direkt känna sig bekväma i sin nya yrkesroll. Sjuksköterskorna uppnår kraven från verksamheternas sida men det är inte utan att både verksamheterna och sjuksköterskorna själva har påpekat brister i utbildningens struktur främst när det handlar om medicinskt och praktiskt kunnande. Även stressen och det stora ansvaret som medkom i yrket upplevdes överväldigande. Syftet med denna studie var att genom en kvalitativ ansats undersöka nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att vara nya i sin yrkesroll. Metod: sex semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes för att finna svar på studiens syfte och frågeställning Vad kan underlätta övergången från student till yrkesverksam? Datamaterialet transkriberades och analyserades med innehållsanalys inspirerad av Burnard (1991) och ett kategorisystem arbetades fram. Resultatet visade att sjuksköterskorna upplevde att det var många nya intryck, tempot var högt och många rutiner att lära och flera kände att det var tvungna att läsa på extra om sjukdomar, anatomi och behandlingsformer som förekom på avdelningen för att kunna bemöta patienter och anhöriga på ett bra sätt samt förstå sina kollegor i samtal och dokument. Trots det kände de flesta att de kom in i sin roll fortare än de trott. Slutsatsen av resultatet är att en bra introduktion och stöd från personalen betyder mycket för den nya sjuksköterskan för att han/hon ska känna sig trygg i sin nya yrkesroll. Mer tid för sjukdoms- lära, anatomi och akutsjukvård i utbildningen efterfrågas samt praktiska övningar och utökad verksamhetsförlagd utbildning för att underlätta övergången från student till yrkesverksam. / It has been shown that newly graduated nurses found it difficult to quickly feel comfortable in their new professional role. Nurses are able to meet the demands of the job, but nevertheless, both the employers and the nurses themselves have pointed out deficiencies in the education’s structure, above all, in terms of medical knowledge as well as practical know-how. Even the stress and the great responsibility that comes with the profession was experienced as overwhelming. The aim of this study was to provide a qualitative approach to examine how newly graduated nurses experience being new in their professional role. The method was carried out with six interviews in order to find answers to the study’s question: What can facilitate the transition from student to employed? The data material were transcribed and analyzed using content analysis inspired by burnard (1991) and a category system was developed. The results showed that nurses were filled with many new impressions, the pace of work was high, various new routines to learn and many felt that they lacked the specific knowledge of the disease and anatomy which was needed in order to deal with patients and relatives in a proper manner. Also, this lack of knowledge hindered them in their discussions with colleagues as well as in the understanding of documentation. In spite of this, most nurses felt that they were able to get into their professional role much more quickly than they had initially believed. The conclusion of the results is that a good introduction to the job and support from the staff mean very much to the new nurses in order to feel secure in his/her new profession. More time for learning about diseases, anatomy and emergency care in their education were requested as well as practical knowledge in the form of exercises and increased on the job training to facilitate the transition from student to employed.
