A criação musical no ocidente tem as suas raízes, assim como o seu principal foco, na relação entre alturas, nas suas estruturas harmónicas tonais ou modais; na construção de estruturas musicais e em conceitos como "tema" ou "motivo"; em questões de duração temporal ou de exactidão rítmica e métrica; e ainda na definição de toda uma estrutura rizomática de estilos musicais que se interligam com base nestas mesmas questões. Qualia pretende ser uma abordagem alternativa a este tipo de pensamento musical. Baseando-se na relação que os instrumentistas desenvolvem com uma representação gráfica do som por eles produzido, procura ser uma ferramenta que resulte de um aprofundar da consciência gestual e tímbrica dos instrumentistas e simultaneamente para a criação de música nova que não se limite ao resultado habitualmente estanque e espectável consequente da notação tradicional, mas que impulsione outro tipo de interacções baseadas na improvisação entre os instrumentistas e o compositor. Inspirado neste tipo de pensamento, pretendeu-se com este trabalho explorar novas abordagens à notação musical aliada a ferramentas multimédia, assim como descobrir os efeitos destas novas perspectivas de comunicação no resultado musical e performativo que dela advêm. / The Western music creation has its roots, as its main focus, in the relationship between sound pitches, in their tonic and modal harmonic structures: the construction of music structures and concepts such as "theme" and "motif", when speaking about time duration or rhythmic accuracy; and the definition of an rhizomatic assembly of music styles that interlink themselves on that basis. Qualia approaches this field as an alternative music thought. Based on the relationship that instrumentalists develop with the graphic representation of what they are producing, Qualia tries to be a tool that results from a deepening awareness of gestual and timbre of instrumentalists while simultaneously creating new music that is not limited to the result usually tight would be expected resulting from traditional notation, but that drives other interactions based on improvisation between musicians and the composer. Inspired by this kind of thinking, it is intended this work to explore new approaches to music notation combined with multimedia tools as well as find out the effects of these new prospects for communication in the musical and performative result that it entails.
