El objetivo de la investigación fue comparar la calidad de vida en personas adultas con discapacidad intelectual que participan en actividades ocupacionales o laborales, en dos centros de Lima Metropolitana, de acuerdo a la percepción de sus cuidadores. La muestra estuvo constituida por 71 personas, 40 varones (56.3%) y 31 mujeres (43.7%); 35 de ellas (49.3%) participan en las actividades ocupacionales y 36 de ellas (50.7%), participan en actividades que implican tareas orientadas al ámbito laboral. Se administró la Escala Integral de Calidad de Vida a los cuidadores primarios. Las personas que participan en actividades laborales presentan mejores indicadores de calidad de vida en las dimensiones de Inclusión Social, Bienestar Laboral y Bienestar Emocional y Físico. En Autodeterminación y Bienestar Material no se hallaron diferencias significativas entre los dos grupos. Las medidas de tamaño del efecto mediante la Delta de Cliff van de pequeñas a moderadas. Se concluye que las personas que participan en actividades laborales presentan una mejor calidad de vida desde la óptica de sus cuidadores en comparación con las personas que participan en actividades ocupacionales.
Palabras Clave: Calidad de vida, Discapacidad intelectual, adultos, Lima / The aim was to compare the quality of life in adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in occupational, or employment-related activities, in two centers of Lima, according to the perception of their caregivers. The sample was of 71 people, 40 males (56.3%) and 31 females (43.7%); 35 of them (49.3%) participate in occupational activities and 36 of them (50.7%), participating in activities that involve the employment-related activities. It is concluded that persons participating in employment-related activities present a better quality of life from the view point of their caregivers in comparison with persons involved in occupational activities.
