Pagyvenusių žmonių ambulatorinės slaugos bei socialinių paslaugų poreikis bendruomenėje / Elderly people nursing and social service need: community estimation

Aim of the study. The aim of the present study is to analyze and estimate the need of ambulatory nursing and social service for elderly people in Kaunas region.
Methods. Elderly people (65 and older) from Kaunas region were interrogated. Special forms were filled in by 390 casually chosen respondents from the list of people registered in PSPC (including dispensaries and medical stations) representing the whole elderly people Kaunas region. The self-sufficiency of the respondents was estimated by standard physical self-sufficiency (Barthel index) and mental status (MMSE) tests. To estimate the relation of the elderly people nursing and need of social service to the demographic and social factors, an anonymous questionnaire was used. The data of the structured questions was processed applying programmable batch of statistical data-processing SPSS for Windows v. 10.0. Quantitative data-processing analysis was applied for the responses. Pearson Chi-Square (χ2) was employed in trying to estimate the intensity of statistical cohesion. The research helped to fix the significance of the latter, Linear-by-Linear Association (df) and statistical credibility (p). The conclusions are considered to be plausible , when p<0,05.
Results. 31,5% of respondents face both, social/economical and nursing problems; 14,6% - social/economical; 6,4% - nursing problems. 71,3% of the respondents consider nursing essential, while 58,2% believe they need social service much more. The main factor operating... [to full text]
