This essay will present the meaning and concepts of a sideline with a focus on a trust detriment perspective in the public sector, more specifically within the police authority. The thesis will investigate the legal grounds on the subject and its vague lines. Furthermore the dissertation will examine the development within the method of the legal area. It is prohibited for an employee to occupy an unauthorised conflict of interest because of its negative impact on the authority. There is a direct connection between the effects of the public trust and the employees avocations within the police. Therefore the thesis will discuss the police judicial role within the community. The principle of objectivity is particularly important within the police authority, which has a direct link to the maintenance of impartiality and factual aspects in the employment. In addition to a trust damaging perspective the thesis will investigate the risk assessment to the employer´s decision and their ability to give consequences in the individual case. Many employers make wrongful decisions when deciding on trust damaging side jobs which is shown in the AD judgements. The legislation contains a formulation that regulates the approach and rights of employees and employers regarding non trustworthy side jobs which will show the effectiveness of the legal text. The fundamental grounds regarding employers' right to private life in relation to the characteristics of the employment is an important point of view in this investigation. From the Swedish legislation the primary grounds are LOA and its preparation. The paper is also based on older legal text and will therefore break down the importance in the development of the subject. Literature to the subject provides an in depth insight to the regulation together with the police impact and meaning in the society.
