The goal of this thesis is to evaluate the potential for sustainable tourism development of the Krkonoše Mountains resorts and to compare the assessed region with the region of Orlice River and its surrounding area; with a special regard to the economic aspects of the issue. Theoretical framework of the thesis emphasizes the economic importance of tourism and its impact on the environment. Subsequently, the concept of sustainable development is described and the notions of potential for tourism and the potential for sustainable tourism development are discussed. The theoretical part further summarizes the negative effects of tourism in the Krkonoše Mountains and the selected aspects of Czech environmental and preservation legislation. The methodical bases specify the methodology of assessment and determine the criteria for its measurement. The practical part of the thesis applies the methodology to the territory of the Krkonoše Mountains resorts. Consequently, there is a comparison of the Giant Mountain resorts with Orlice River and its surrounding area. Summary of the thesis contains the answers to the research questions and verifies the hypotheses focused on the economic aspects of the issue. Finally, the proposals and recommendations for destination management and other interest groups are set out.
