This paper intends to survey two sampling inspection methods, single sampling and double sampling, which are commonly used in industry. The explanation and development of these methods assumes an elementary knowledge of probability theory. In addition, the theory of sampling as developed in this paper requires that inspection testing be done by a non-destructive method and that defective items found in testing be replaced by non-defective items. Concluding the paper is an example which illustrates the application and relative merits of the sampling plans described herein. / Advisor: John L.
