Due to the current situation in the world, where war and poverty are causing the need for a lot of people to leave their homelands, there are currently many people trying to find shelter and safety in other countries. A lot of the people fleeing their homelands for a better future are so called unaccompanied minors, who are children arriving at their destination without parents or a legal guardian. The amount of unaccompanied minors seeking refuge in Sweden have steadily grown over the last couple of years. This study aims to investigate the different difficulties social service workers within four municipalities in the south part of Sweden, whose main work consists of helping and assessing these childrens needs, can encounter while trying to accomplish the different aspects of said work within the boundries of the resources given to them by their organisations. The study also aims to investigate the same social workers possibilities of getting assistence from co-workers and other parts of the organisation, as well as from managers. The study is built upon semi-structured interviews with four social workers who are currently working with unaccompanied minors. The data collected in the interviews were analysed using Michael Lipskys theory of street level bureaucracy, as well as a system theory. The results of the study showed me that while the interviewed social service workers had, to some extent, experienced trouble accomplishing their work-related tasks, they also felt that the support of their organisations and society as a whole made the work possible to perform. The study did show that the social workers employed in smaller municipalities had a harder time coping, but i am doubtful whether or not this can be applied as a general state, considering the small scope of the study.
