Previous issue date: 2012-01-09 / This work aimed at researching the phenomenon of absenteeism at CAGECE (Water and
sewerage Company of Ceara). The initial hypothesis was that the work itself - including its physical conditions (temperature, machinery, lighting etc) as well as its abstract ones (interpersonal relations and hierarchical, work organization etc) - could be linked with the employees falling ill. The existence of a relation between the workers' absenteeism due to illnesses and the work itself in this company, in the discourse of the employees, has been explored. The research was carried out throughout the year 2011 and consisted of two parts: a quantitative and a qualitative one. The quantitative one was done by employing the SPSS program and analyzing the data of medical certificates from 2009 and 2010, which had been classified according to their CID. During the second stage of the research, 15 semi structured interviews were conducted with employees who were among the categories that showed a higher amount of medical certificates, regardless of their position. The research points to a positive relation regarding the link of the speech of the workers between the absenteeism due to illness in the company and the work itself: some individuals linked the work with their cases of illnesses, while others made a relation between absenteeism and the CAGECE institution, as in a way of in which the company is structured or its physical installations.
Keywords: absenteeism, Work, illness, psychological suffering. / O presente trabalho teve por objetivo investigar o fenômeno do absenteísmo na Companhia
de Água e Esgoto do Ceará CAGECE. Foi investigado se o próprio trabalho ai incluídas suas condições materiais (temperatura, maquinário, iluminação etc.) e abstratas (relações interpessoais e hierárquicas, organização do trabalho etc.) poderiam estar
relacionado aos adoecimentos dos funcionários. Investigamos se existia relação, no
discurso dos trabalhadores, entre os episódios de absenteísmo por doença na empresa e o
trabalho nessa instituição. A pesquisa foi realizada ao longo do ano de 2011 e constou de duas etapas: uma quantitativa e outra qualitativa. A pesquisa quantitativa foi levada a termo fazendo uso do programa SPSS e analisando os dados dos atestados dos anos de 2009 e 2010, que foram classificados de acordo com seu CID. Na segunda etapa foram realizadas 15 entrevistas semi-estruturadas com funcionários que estavam entre as categorias que apresentaram maior quantitativo de atestados ou que apresentaram doenças
reconhecidamente associadas ao trabalho. A pesquisa aponta para uma relação positiva, no
sentido da associação no discurso dos trabalhadores, entre os episódios de absenteísmo por doença na empresa e o trabalho: algumas pessoas fizeram associação entre o trabalho em si e seus episódios de adoecimento, outras fizeram uma relação entre o adoecimento e a instituição CAGECE, e a maneira como a empresa está estruturada ou as suas instalações
físicas.
