The objective of this study was to investigate the relationships between the functional performance of children with SD and the perception of social support, quality of life and socio-economic level of their caretakers. Fifty caregivers of both genders, caregivers of children with SD, aged between six months and seven and a half years, were divided into two homogeneous sub-groups through the ages of 6 months to 4 years (n24) and over 4 years to 7 and a half years (n26), regular goers of specialized institutions. The instruments used were WHOQOL Brefs, social support Scale evaluation Inventory PEDI, socioeconomic level survey (ABEP) and identification of the survey participant. The results showed that the functional performance of children with functional skills regarding SD and caregiver assistance were different for the different tracks (groups). There is weak to moderate correlation between the scores of quality of life and social support. You can show a slight tendency to higher values of quality of life score for more social support values. To identify the existence of social support among caregivers of children with SD, did an analysis of the relationship between the number of people suportivas and perceived social support and we note that there is a correlation between weak and moderate between the two variables. With respect to the number of people believed to be suportivas, for the studied group caregivers mostly don't realize people thought to be suportivas. We observed that in relation to the level of satisfaction with social support, caregivers are mostly dissatisfied with the social support received. For indicators of domains that make up the index of quality of life, the highest correlation was found between the social and the psychological quality of life indicator. Negative correlation was observed between most of the indicators of quality of life and the socio-economic level and level of education, that is, it can be said that it was noted a lower quality of life for the worst socio-economic levels mainly considering the environmental domain. It was observed that in the worst socio-economic levels the level of education is less. It is concluded that works that identify forms of intervention that favour the social support for families who have children with SD should be the target of future investigations based on the premise that the social support, integrates public policies relating to inclusive education. / Crianças com síndrome de Down (SD) apresentam disfunções neuro-sensório-motoras que limitam sua funcionalidade e participação social. O objetivo do estudo foi investigar as relações entre o desempenho funcional de crianças com SD e a percepção do suporte social, qualidade de vida e nível socioeconômico de seus cuidadores. Cinquenta cuidadores de ambos os gêneros, cuidadores de crianças com SD, com idade entre seis meses e sete anos e meio, foram divididos em dois subgrupos homogêneos pelas idades de 6 meses a 4 anos (n=24) e maiores de 4 anos a 7 anos e meio (n=26), frequentadores regulares de instituições especializadas. Os instrumentos utilizados foram WHOQOL Bref, Escala de suporte social, Inventário de avaliação PEDI, Questionário de nível socioeconômico (ABEP) e Questionário de identificação do participante. Os resultados demonstraram que o desempenho funcional de crianças com SD referentes às habilidades funcionais e assistência do cuidador foram diferentes para as diferentes faixas(grupos) etários. Existe correlação de fraca a moderada entre os escores de qualidade de vida e suporte social. É possível visualizar uma leve tendência de maiores valores do escore de qualidade de vida para maiores valores de suporte social. Para identificar a existência de suporte social entre os cuidadores de crianças com SD, fizemos uma análise da relação entre o número de pessoas suportivas e suporte social percebido e notamos que existe uma correlação entre fraca e moderada entre as duas variáveis. Com relação ao número de pessoas tidas como suportivas, para o grupo estudado os cuidadores em sua maioria não percebem as pessoas tidas como suportivas. Observamos que em relação ao nível de satisfação com o suporte social, os cuidadores em sua maioria estão insatisfeitos com o suporte social recebido. Para os indicadores dos domínios que compõem o índice de qualidade de vida, a correlação mais elevada encontrada foi entre o domínio social e o psicológico do indicador de qualidade de vida. Observou-se correlação negativa entre a maioria dos indicadores de qualidade de vida e o nível socioeconômico e grau de instrução, ou seja, pode ser dito que foi notada uma qualidade de vida inferior para piores níveis socioeconômicos principalmente considerando-se o domínio ambiental. Observou-se que nos níveis socioeconômicos piores o grau de instrução é menor. Conclui-se que trabalhos que identifiquem formas de intervenção que favoreçam o suporte social para as famílias que tenham filhos com SD devem ser alvo de investigações futuras partindo da premissa que o suporte social, integra as políticas públicas referentes à educação inclusiva.
