Concept acquisition in geography of secondary school pupils

This study investigated the causes of difficulty experienced
by Standard Nine Venda pupils in acquiring hierarchical
geographical concepts. The study also focussed on
intervention methods to assist pupils acquire concepts so
that they could be able to transfer them to other
situations. The literature was surveyed for background
information on the role of prior knowledge, the transfer for
attained concepts, instructional organization in acquiring
concepts, and language and concept acquisition.
