The thesis deals with the image of mediaval roman king and emperor and his power during the first half of the 11. century, as depicted in Wipo's work Gesta Chuonradi II. imperatoris. Conrad II., the first salian ruler is used as a model example of an ideal sovereign. The analysis of Conrad's image covers his reign as a king till his death, with peculiar focus on the forming of Conrad's empire, internal and foreign policy especially towards Italy and Burgundy. Furthemore the thesis concerns the discrepancy between reality and idealized behaviour of the ruler outlined in Wipo's work, as it was intended as an emperor's praise and as a guidebook for successor to the throne.
