El presente estudio se realizó con el objetivo de investigar la prevalencia de Peritonitis Bacteriana Espontánea (PBE) en los pacientes cirróticos con ascitis que son hospitalizados en el Servicio de Gastroenterología del Hospital Nacional Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen. Entre los meses de Julio y Diciembre del 2002 se hospitalizaron 43 pacientes cirróticos con ascitis, de los cuales se incluyeron 38 en este estudio, a dichos pacientes se les realizó la paracentesis diagnóstica dentro de las 48 horas del ingreso al hospital, teniendo como resultado una prevalencia de PBE de 26.3%. Las bacterias encontradas fueron Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca y Klebsiella neumoniae. Se sugiere que en el estudio del líquido ascítico de todo paciente cirrótico también se incluya la investigación de gérmenes relacionados con PBE. / --- The objetive of this study is investigate the prevalence of Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (PBE) in cirrhotic patientes with ascites that are hospitalized in the Gastroenterologist Service of Hospital Nacional Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen. Between the months of July and December of 2003, 43 cirrhotic patients with ascites were hospitalized, 38 patientes were included in this study. A diagnostic paracentesis was performed in the first 48 hours of admision at hospital. The prevalence of PBE was found to be 26.3%. The bacterias found were Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca and Klebsiella neumoniae.
