El presente estudio titulado “Medidas de Autocuidado que tienen los adolescentes portadores del virus del VIH-SIDA en el Hogar San Camilo 2009”, tuvo como objetivo determinar las medidas de autocuidado que tienen los adolescentes portadores del virus del VIH-SIDA en el Hogar San Camilo. El estudio es de nivel aplicativo, tipo cuantitativo, método descriptivo, prospectivo, de corte transversal. La población estuvo conformada por 40 adolescentes de ambos sexos portadores del virus del VIH-SIDA. La técnica fue la entrevista y el instrumento un formulario tipo cuestionario. Los resultados fueron que el 87.5% de los adolescentes tienen medidas adecuadas y un porcentaje poco significativo de 12.5% inadecuadas. En cuanto a la alimentación, el 70% recibe una dieta balanceada, el 80% come tres veces al día, un 85% termina todos sus alimentos y el 60% ingiere algún tipo de suplemento vitamínico; el 60% realiza el baño diario, el 90% tiene el hábito de lavado de manos y el 92.5% hace uso personal del cepillo dental; en cuanto al descanso y sueño el 62.5% duerme de 8 a 12 horas diarias; el 55% cumple con actividades recreativas habituales en su proceso de desarrollo normal; el 35% cuenta con apoyo emocional brindado por sus pares, hermanos, padres y/o abuelos; sobre el autoestima, el 80% considera que son importantes y el 87.5% no siente rechazo en su entorno; en cuanto al control y tratamiento de la enfermedad que padecen, el 87.5% de los adolescentes acuden a sus consultas.
Las conclusiones derivadas del estudio son que la mayoría de los adolescentes portadores del virus del VIH-SIDA tienen medidas de autocuidado adecuadas en cuanto a la alimentación, higiene corporal, descanso y sueño, actividad, interacción social, autoestima, control y tratamiento de la enfermedad.

The study is an application level, quantitative type, descriptive method, prospective, cross sectional study. The population consisted of 40 teenagers of both sexes carrying the HIV-AIDS virus. The technique was the interview and the instrument using a standard form questionnaire. The results were that 87.5% of adolescents have appropriate measures and an insignificant percentage of 12.5% inadequate. Regarding food, 70% have a balanced diet, 80% eat three times a day, and 85% complete all their food and 60% ingest vitamin supplements; 60% have the habit of the daily bath, 90% have the habit of hand washing and 92.5% make personal use of the toothbrush; about rest and sleep, 62.5% sleep from 8 to 12 hours a day; 55% complied with usual recreational activities in the process of normal development; 35% have emotional support provided by their peers, siblings, parents or grandparents; regarding self-esteem, 80% consider themselves important and 87.5% do not feel rejected in their environment, about the control and treatment of disease, 87.5% of teenagers go to their clinic visits.
The findings from the study are that most teenagers carrying the virus of HIV / AIDS have adequate self-care measures in terms of food, hygiene, rest and sleep, activity, social interaction, self esteem, in control and treatment of disease.
