Numerosos estudios y estimaciones de la utilización de medicamentos por pacientes no hospitalizados sugieren que el 50% de éstos emplean su medicación de manera incorrecta. A pesar de que no todos los errores son lo bastante serios como para dañar y deteriorar la salud, los estudios realizados ponen de manifiesto que el mal uso de los medicamentos representa para el 25% de esos pacientes una verdadera amenaza para su salud. A su vez, los elevados costos de las medicinas exigen hoy en día acciones coordinadas entre los distintos profesionales de la salud, encaminados a minimizar las pérdidas y a acrecentar al máximo los beneficios de los tratamientos farmacológicos. El motivo que nos llevó a realizar el presente trabajo, fue el alto índice de personas que padecen de presión arterial alta y la poca información que disponen de su enfermedad y tratamiento. La HTA se caracteriza por ser una enfermedad crónica y de mal pronóstico cuando el paciente no recibe tratamiento oportuno y monitoreo adecuado de la terapia prescrita. Por lo tanto, frente a esta realidad, consideramos adecuado y necesario implantar un programa de Atención Farmacéutica en una farmacia comunitaria. De esta manera poder beneficiar al paciente mediante mejoras tanto en la calidad de los tratamientos terapéuticos como en su calidad de vida. Este trabajo se desarrolló en forma prospectiva desde Octubre del año 2000 a Mayo del año 2001; en la cual se trabajó con un total de 38 pacientes a los cuales se les brindó Atención Farmacéutica. A pesar que el trabajo realizado es el primero en su tipo, los resultados son alentadores. Los pacientes, en su mayoría, acudieron a su cita periódicamente, aprendieron que el Farmacéutico puede intervenir positivamente en beneficio de su salud y no sólo dispensarle medicamentos; mejoramos su calidad de vida. Al final se observo un cambio en la imagen del Químico Farmacéutico en la comunidad. / The most important reason why we carried this project out was the work the high index of people who suffer of high arterial pressure and have not enough information about their illness. The HTA is characterized to be a chronic illness, with a bad prognosis, when the patient doesn't receive an opportune treatment and an appropriate monitoreo of the prescribed therapy. Nowadays, many studies and estimates about use of medications for not hospitalized patients suggest that 50% of these use its medication in an incorrect way. Although not all the errors are the quite serious one to damage or to deteriorate the health, the carried out studies show that the wrong use of the medications represents to 25% of those patients a true threat for its health. Meanwhile, the expensive costs of the medicines demand us an action coordinated among the different professionals of the health, to minimize the loss and to increase in a maximum way the benefits of the treatments. Therefore, we realized that the moment was appropriate to implant a program of Pharmaceutical Attention at community level; consequently we will be able to benefit the patient so much in this way by improving of the quality of life and quality of the therapeutic treatment. This project was developed in a prospective method from October 2000 to May 2001; in which we have worked with a total of 38 patients whom were offered Pharmaceutical Attention. Even though this project was the first of it's type, the results were encouraging; the patients went to pharmaceutical appointment periodically; beside they learned that the pharmacists Chemist play an important rol into the integral treatment to take care the patient's health. improving the quality of their life; also, it started to change the image of Pharmacist Chemist into the community. The results and comments are shown in this project.
